I just got a new installation yesterday.. all RG-6 connections..
i have re-wire everything today to use component... but anyways...

They installed a 810 and 311 yesterday.
I am hoping that today , as a current customer, i can call up Dish
and upgrade my 311 to a 510 for $99.

I would ideally like to use my 510 to drive both my HDTV downstairs
as well as my bedroom TV (I am aware that both TVs will watch the same
output, but i didn't want to get the DHA plan to get the 522 as i am ok with
this limitation).

I am hoping that I can use 510's S-video to connect to my HDTV
and use the co-ax output to go directly to my bedroom TV.
that way, the UHF remote can be used from the bedroom to control the 510.

will the 510 remote change only channels on the 510 and not the 811.. I am presuming so.

any other gotchas i need to know before i call Dish ?

thanks

Make sure the 510 has a different remote address than your 811. Both default to channel 1.

Hmm.. is that true for all their receivers and remotes ?
cause right now.. i haven't yet upgraded.. and i have the 311 next to the 811.
and the 311 remote is changing the 811.
how do i change the remote address ?

Personally, I used the second RCA out jacks to run three RG6 cables to my bedroom tv. Each end of the cables were terminated in RCA plugs. It works nicely...except for that whole constant signal thingie.

Sweet! I never would've thought about trying that.

How much distance are we talkin' about?
