Hey All,

I have been using Dish now for over 2 years and I really want to keep the service but can't afford it right now. I was wondering if you think it would be worth it for me to cancel my service since its been 2 years and start it up again for a deal??

I was paying for a deal at first but the past year have paid over $90 a month which has become too much for me. I had 2 standard boxes and 1 DVR box with Bronze 100 Plus programming which ends up running over $90 over taxes and DVR fees and leasing costs....

Suggestions?

Depending on what you want to watch DISH offers packages as low as $9.99 Welcome Package. Give them a chance to keep you as a customer. Try talking to an account specialist at 888-387-6371.

Not a lot they could do. Removed one of my receivers, canceled some programming etc but nothing in terms of deals.

I did manage to chop the cost down to the 70s but I am a little bummed I could get a helpful hand for a little bit

I think you can "suspend" your account for a period of time. When you are ready to activate again, you just call. Not quite sure on all the details of this though.

Maybe post what you are currently paying for ... we might be able to widdle that down a little further.

I suppose if you tell the CSR you need to downgrade programming because of cost they might throw in some deals to keep you in a higher tier.

Ok here is what I was at before.

$39.99 (Bronze Classic w/ Locals)
$10.00 (HD Channels)
$10.00 (Platinum HD)
$5.00 (Additional SD Box Lease)
$7.00 (Additional HD DVR Box Lease)
$5.98 (DVR Service)
$5.99 (Home Protection Plan)
-----------------------------------
$86.03 Total after taxes

After removing programming to try and get my bill down this is what I am at now.

$39.99 (Bronze Classic w/ Locals)
$10.00 (HD Channels)
$7.00 (Additional HD DVR Box Lease)
$5.98 (DVR Service)
-----------------------------------
I removed about $20 dollars which brings it to the high 60s (Still high for me now)

========================================

I am debating now whether or not I should just go with TurboHD Bronze + Locals ($30+6) which would save me another $10 dollars or so...but I have read mixed reviews on this forum about such a move.

I sub to the TurboHD Bronze with locals and have plenty to watch for my tastes. I've read a couple of posts about folks going with the welcome pack and if I didn't want HD I'd switch to that myself. It has plenty of channels that I currently watch and I think with locals it runs about $15 per month plus dvr or additional receiver fees. Might be worth a look.

I thought DDA Classic Bronze was $44.99? The additional HD DVR receiver would be another $12 putting you at $66.99. Now we add HD putting you at $76.99 plus taxes. How many and what type of receivers do you have? I am a little confused ...

Yes you could go DDA TurboHD Bronze for $39.99. This will include your locals. An additional HD DVR receiver will be $12 on top of that putting you at $51.99 plus taxes. If you watch Nick or Fox News however, this might not be an option for you.

Since you're presumably out of contract, just cancel and sign up in your wife's name... that's the real-world solution to what you want to do, proprieties be darned.

That said, I'm shocked they didn't offer you a deal in exchange for a new contract.

The wife is not considered a new customer. Either way you need to be gone for 6 months to come back under formers.

Downgrading your service will reduce your monthly bill. Canceling your service, then rejoining again under a new contract will lock you in for another 24 months.

I would suggest looking at your budget an what you can afford to spend each month. Then call a DN customer service and ask them what they can do to give the best value for your money.

Shop around before calling DN CSR. For example, call DTV and ask them what is the best deal you can get for the money (your budget amount). After that go back to DN and negotiate.

id call them tell them your situation sometimes they will help, or have a special deal for exsiting costmers, nothing lost but a call, try get a amercian on line though...

As I am sure many others, have said in the mean time, you may want to move to family or maybe drop the HD. A nice thing about Dish network, from what I see, is that "lower" tier packages that they have do have some decent channels.

Hey guys, thanks all for the replies :)
The only channels we actually watch are our Locals, Discovery, Food, ESPN and maybe a couple others.

So I def want to keep those and I want to keep HD otherwise I might as well get rid of TV all together. I am seriously debating going just TurboHD Bronze as it has our essentials but I may not see some unknown kink.

I figure I might try TurboHD Bronze for a month or 2 and feel it out. If not I will go back to what I have now and just try and bite the bullet for the costs.

I don't really want to sign into another 24 month contract either.

Thanks again...any more suggestions are always welcome :)

Yeah, technically that's true - but been there done that and know literally hundreds of others who have done the same. There's really no way to stop it, since people move, apartment complexes have high turnover, etc, etc...

Actually, Dish has some CSR's who are so credit-happy that I'm shocked this guy hasn't gotten to one that will help him out... but when all else fails, you do what you gotta do, proprieties be darned.

Only when you down grade (like going from gold to bronze for example) ... if you whine enough though they usually waive it.

If would be sad ... but funny if they charged you a down grade fee going from DDA Classic Bronze HD to DDA TurboHD Bronze. As far as HD channels go ... technically is is a down grade :(
