Hi there : Have had BEV for 2 years now. 4 days ago, starting losing channels, turning all blocky etc. Message comes up saying can't find satellite signal and it always shows Satellite 91, Transponder 2. I can't get 5 channels, and coincidentally, or not, they are all on Transponder 2. My signal strength for T-2 is varying between 0% and 40%. All other channels and transponders seem to be coming in OK.

Because of how my house is situated, I have to shoot my dish just over some tree tops on a ridge behind the house. I've never had signal problems before now. Is it possible for a tree to take out the signal of just one transponder and not any of the others ?

I tried reaiming the dish, but couldn't increase any signal strength. The manual that comes with my BEV said to install it using Trans 11 signal, and on that one I get 70% to 75% signal strength, through the trees.

Why would a tree block the signal on just one transponder ? I have no problem cutting the tree down (big tall soft maple) but before I did so I just wanted to know if it was possible for that to be the cause of losing signal on just one transponder.

Thanks !

welcome :wave
if a tree is blocking the view, it would be all tp's on that satellite..so it sounds weird that just one is bad

Did you check all connections?

What signal do you get on lets say transponders 14 & 15?

(normally we say 11 & 12, but they are on 2 separate satellites..11 is on Nimiq3 and 12 is on Nimiq1…they’re both at the same location in the sky)

Thanks for replying. I thought it might help if I posted my signal strength on all 32 transponders. A little background on the conditions outside right now ....... heavily overcast, just finished raining, not a breeze in the air (ie. the trees and their branches are perfectly still).

The numbers in the following lines are : Transponder, Low% Signal Strength,
High% Signal Strength:

01 48-52
02 37-41
03 62-67
04 58-62
05 45-50
06 41-47
07 62-66
08 58-63
09 58-62
10 55-60
11 60-64
12 60-64
13 48-51
14 42-46
15 45-48
16 48-51
17 65-69
18 58-62
19 49-53
20 48-52
21 66-70
22 47-50
23 64-68
24 64-67
25 64-67
26 57-61
27 45-49
28 45-49
29 42-45
30 43-47
31 47-50
32 48-51

When I checked the transponder signal strength, I watched each one for about 30 seconds and noted the lowest and highest fluctuations. Every transponder locked in right away and the bar turned green except for Transponder 2. Transponder 29 was red for maybe 25 seconds and finally locked in.

I'm not sure if the numbers above will tell you anything and help me figure
out what's going wrong, but anyone's thoughts and advice is appreciated. Do I cut the tree(s) down or not !!?!?!

Anyways, thanks again for the help !
