LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DISH Network L.L.C. today is announcing a wide selection of Ultra HD content to be available on the upcoming Hopper 3 and 4K Joey, including a collection of 4K Sony Pictures movies and a wide selection of 4K action, thriller, romance and independent movies from The Orchard and Mance Media. The Netflix app, available on Hopper 3 and 4K Joey, will also offer customers a catalog of 4K TV shows and movies, without the need to switch inputs or devices.

“Our inventory of 4K content gives customers the ability to enjoy programming that showcases Ultra HD technology and offers an unparalleled viewing experience,” said Warren Schlichting, DISH Executive Vice President of Marketing, Programming and Media Sales. “By partnering with Sony Pictures, The Orchard and Mance Media, we are able to give viewers some of the most popular movies at the best picture quality commercially available.”

Sony Pictures titles available to rent on demand at launch will include “The Amazing Spiderman,” “Captain Phillips,” “American Hustle,” “Monuments Men” and “Smurfs 2,” and Sony Pictures will continue to roll out more titles from its catalog of 4K content.

“We are excited to partner with DISH in delivering an immersive, innovative 4K Ultra HD experience in the home, giving consumers a new way of enjoying 4K movies on demand,” said Man Jit Singh, President, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.

4K titles from Sony Pictures, The Orchard, Mance Media and Netflix can be accessed from a 4K Joey client connected to any generation Hopper. A whole-home Ultra HD experience is available to customers with a Hopper 3 and one or more 4K Joeys.

Samsung will be here in March LOL

I more hope HEVC could just allow better satellite PQ more than anything. 1080i, 1080p, or whatever. Just better.

Thats one thing I find interesting with the specs announced no mention of HEVC.. but it HAS TO support HEVC as it supports 4K from Netflix.

Too bad the Hopper 3 chipset does not support VP9 which is needed to view Youtube's 4K content.
