We have a HWS and a regular hopper and my wife has noticed that lately almost every night that she turns on the regular hopper later at night like around 2 or 3 am, then it will be turned to one of the premium channels and usually it is a cinemax channel it seems and that late at night is about equivelent to soft core porn. It never used to do that, but now it does. It doesn't always stay tuned to the channel that it was on when it gets shut off, but it used to. She doesn't have any timers on those premium channels so that couldn't be it. My HWS stays tuned as it should. Anyone else heard of or had this issue? What could it be? Thanks!

Mine does the same thing. I was told it "learns" your watching habits. I watch one of the business networks every morning. When I turn it on, it is already tuned to that channel. I'm not suscribed to any premium channels, so I haven't experienced what you are seeing.

hmm... that kinda makes sense. it must have been a feature of a recent update then. Now that I think of it, my HWS has been tuned to our local nbc station almost every morning. Which it automatically would be anyways because I watch the evening news on nbc before bed every night and then the today show every morning. But, our local NBC station is the one that went dark with the Tribune/dish dibacle and so I haven't had it on that channel since it went dark, but when i turn it on in the mornings, there have been several mornings that it's on that channel. I wish there was a way to turn that feature off though because we loved how it would 100% of the time remember what channel it was on when you powered it off and kept it there for when you turned it back on.

On my HWS (with the carbon ) you can choose between last channel watched, smart channel (which guesses what you might want ) or the Home screen.
Not sure if you have those choices on the old interface.

this "feature" has been around for a while. The HWS used to tune to the last channel that was watched until one of the updates............been lots of complaints..........but no changes from Dish

You sure that someone in your house isn't watching Cinemax late at night ? As others have mentioned, and you can confirm, it "learns" what channels you like to watch as well as what time you watch certain channels.

How do I know if my HWS has the new carbon update?
Press "Guide". Are the colors a glaring silvery-gray background with blue lettering ? Or, do you have various pop-up menus with a blue background and a different shade of blue for the highlight ? If you do, you have the original interface.

Really though, there's a very slim chance you have the new Carbon interface unless you forced it to download/install. It's very different - you would know.

A strong possibility is that if no one was watching at that time to get the right channel, it turned it to a trending channel.
