Because it costs too much money and they don't want MLB TV if even one subscriber is forced to get it on a package when they didn't want the channel.

See Dish Network is a profitable company and they want to keep it that way. DirecTV has only recently gone into the black even though they have been in business for 2 years longer than Dish. Dish is still owned by the same guy that founded it. DirecTV has changed hands twice because it wasn't making money!

Accept it or not... that is the reason. $$$. Pure and simple. Dish wants things a la carte as much as possible or as little impact to the bottom line while trying to keep package prices in line.

DirecTV will pay ANY price to get exclusives at the cost of the bottom line if for no other reason than to keep that product away from its competitors. Dish would rather tow the line on prices and expenditures.

See ya

In all due respect, when one looks at the loss for D* in 2004 and realizes it is because of Non-recurring expenses of $1.6B which is more money than the Gross Profit - not to mention accounting changes mandated by the SEC after Enron, Worldcomm and all the rest, that is really comparing apples to oranges on the bottom line.

When one invests in state of the art satellites for future plans as opposed to cobbling together space junk like 129W, it does cost money - and that day of reckoning is fast approaching.

If Charlie really believed in worthless junk in packages that everyone pays for as you seem to indicate, the HD Channels and Voom would still be priced individually.

Bottom line - Charlie could care less about keeping expenses in line - he will simply pass the expense on to the customer and we are the people that make Charlie his profit.

Excellent post! Right on...It's a business. I find it remarkable when people come on here and complain that Dish is keeping them from watching this channel or that one..
