I am using an LG stb for my OTA in Asheville. It happens to have a QAM tuner in it, so I tested it out. Wouldn't ya know, you can get all the audio music channels, some other just miscellaneous channels including NBC 24 hour weather channel, and NBCHD and CBSHD. THis means you can suscribe to a basic package and not carry the HD tier and still the two locals they offer in HD and can save some bucks. Mind you won't pick up ESPNHD, UNIVERSAL HD, INHD, HBOHD, SHOWHD without their set top box as they are encrypted. But I haven't seen this info about asheville posted anywhere, hope it helps!
