If you're being dumb, then so am I. All the directional buttons do is move the highlighted field around screen. I have tried every button on the remote and nothing gives me anything other than numbers.

BTW - My 522 dials EVERY 2 minutes and each call is exactly 24 seconds long. So count yourself lucky (sort of). This P.O.S. is tying up my phone at a rate of over 4,000 calls per month!!! My last phone bill was over 40 pages long - double sided!

I called the "tech" people and all they could do is exchange my new unit for a refurbished receiver (gee thanks). Didn't mater, since this one does the exact same thing the first one was doing.
I tried the reverse DSL filter at the receiver - no change.
I tried the reverse DSL filter at the cable modem - no change.
I tried setting the 522 to dial a *99 prefix, but there's no way to get the *character (no buttons will put anything into the field other than the number keys).

Anyone have any success?

I only registered to answer this post.

It works for me with my PVE 501 and 508 dishnetwork

I added prefix 3 letter as "311"

So Wheneve receiver tries to dial it first dial as 311 18002679084.
So Call will not be completed. You can try some other prefix but 311 works for me.
Good luck and save money with lingo or vonage if you have high speed internet.

If you can't find *...

Change the Vonage sevice to not compress any calls.

Go to vonage.com, log in, click Features, then Bandwidth Saver. Choose the radio button on the right (90). Submit. Wait a little while for it to communicate (maybe 30 minutes) or reboot the MTA.

Everything should be fine.

I ended up putting mine at 90 because our house alarm communicates with the home office once a week. I can't change the way it dials, and it wouldn't communicate using any compression.

I have a 510 and 2 311 units. The 510 is connected to my main Vonage house line and one of the 311 units is connected to my fax only Vonage line. Looking at my Dashboard, it looks like the 311 unit is trying to dial back to DishNetwork. We haven't ordered any movies on that box so there shouldn't be a reason for it do be dialing out. I did go and add the *99 prefix to the two boxes that are connected to phone lines. But I'm thinking the *99 feature doesn't work on the dedicated Vonage fax line. When I go into my Vonage account page, I don't have the option of bandwidth saver for the 2nd fax line. Should I switch the 311 box that's connected to the fax line over to the main house line (that has the option for bandwidth saver)?

After putting in the *99 on the 311 box I did a dialin from the dish and it showed it connecting (the Apr 17,2005 09:02 PM call), but then the call dropped. Think maybe "hard booting" the box would help at all?

here's something odd to add. my DishNetwork box was trying to dial out several times a day for days on end. all of a sudden, as of 4/20/05 is stopped.
