I didn’t think Uniden was still around. I had one of their police scanners and CB radios as a kid.

Uniden is still around. They aren't what they used to be since the demise of Radio Shack as they used to build most of their cordless phones and scanners.

Back in the day, the material that dental fillings were made from wasn't all that far from germanium or galena. There's still the issue of how you listen to it. The signal would need to be strong enough not to need a tuner or antenna.

There used to be no power limit on AM stations. Shortwave stations still have a 50kW minimum because the powers-that-be would rather they didn't exist.
