I have a hd digital cable box that outputs 5.1 SS through a digital coax cable. Problem is my a/v reciever only has optical inputs. Is there any way to convert one to the other?

There are converters but the ones I remember seeing aren't too cheap (I think around $30). Also, I believe they need to be separately powered--another wall wart to find an open receptacle for.

I just wish all the manufacturers would just agree on optical. :D

Yes, the digital audio thing seems to be all over the map. My Sony receiver only accepts digital audio from a coax connection. Fortunately, both my DVD player and DVD recorder offer both digital audio options out. Why this stuff isn't standardized is beyond me.
