Can I use a Direct TV dish to watch Chinese FTA programs such as CCTV4 and CCTV9. I have a Coship receiver, which was used in a setup to watch Chinese FTA programs in my previous home. I am wondering if I can just use the Direct TV dish directly with the Coship receiver? I do have a KU-LNBF removed from my old satellite dish. Do I need to replace the Direct TV LNB with this KU-LNBF? Also, do I need to change the angle of the Direct TV dish to get the Chinese FTA programs? Thanks for your help.

To watch DVB you need a linear LNBF (direct uses circular) The direct tv receiver will only receive Direct tv when authorized. The direct tv dish may not have enough gain depending on it's size for FSS ku.

Welcome to the forums.

You can't use your DirecTV receiver,Dish, or LNBF to receive CCTV4 and CCTV9 from Galaxy 3C.

you will need a free to air receiver (like your Coship), 80cm dish, and Linear LNBF.

Since you already have all that, are there something wrong with your equipment? I suspect you have a problem with your dish.

If your equipment 4 years old, you may want to invest in a complete new system.

Forget Direct TV equipment.

1 coship + 1 starchoice dish + 1 starchoice lnb = CCTV on Galaxy 3C. This all assumes that your coship is for DVB-S type signals.

But spending $50 on a 1 meter dish will serve you better.

also saw a couple of mandarin channels on Galaxy 19. Even saw a Cantonese channel on 91W. It was listed as scrambled but for some reason was still viewable. Still not sure where that signal came from.

The Coship will receive DVB signals. Its older equipment but works fine

Thank you for all the responses. I did not take the old dish with me but I have the old KU-LNBF and the Coship receiver. Can I use the existing Direct TV dish but replace the LNBF with my old KU-LNBF? What is DVB-S?

the dish is too small. You would need a 30" dish

DVB-S is just DVB which is what our free to air receivers use.
You're in Ohio....Sadoun is in Columbus if you're near there you can save on the shipping
