I agree - anything else seems just a bad idea. While I love the ability of technology, it should be purpose-guided and I see no good reason for changing in this case. Conversely, it's a safe bet it will produce considerable consumer confusion.

The "screensaver" should give information like

"We've added a new feature: When you press any button on your remote, your Dish receiver will be auto-tuned to your most watched TV channel*.

*If you prefer to disable this feature, press Menu, etc, etc, etc"

Which means lots of calls, which will result in it being eliminated soon. It's happened before.
