I am a new comcast customer, just switched from dish. I have a HD only box and a HD DVR box. Compared to dish, i am real disappointed w/ the interface of both of these boxes. A few things I am missing that I was wondering about.

  • No way to just view all subscribed channels in the guide
  • Guide Display is just generally ugly, and text is small
  • Guide seems to cut off the last half hour of the last show displayed, even though it only shows full screen on widescreen tvs
  • Button response on both boxes seem really slow
  • No favorites menu? Just that button you can mash that changes between each channel with no list

Anybody found a workaround for any of these issues, or are there features that I am not seeing to adjust these things?

We also need to know which box. I have quite a boit of info on the Motorola HD DVDs, but this seems to use a different UI, so it is likely something else.

You might want to take a look at Wikipedia with the model number. Many models have nice user guides with tricks and tips over there.

Its just an example photo. I have comcast, and the guide looks the same. I have an Explorer 8300 HD and an Explorer 4250.

It is a Cisco/Scientific Atlanta box

I don't know a lot about this box. You might look at some of these links:

From the picture, it looks like the guide is configured for 16:9, but the TV is configured for 4:3. Was the TV hooked up via the HDMI port? I could sewe this happening if the TV was connected via RF or composite port.

I know that Comcast instructs its installers to connect via RF connections, even if you lay out an HDMI cable. Kinda stupied as it makes the box put out NTSC, but that is Comcast's policy.

BTW, none of the Comcast boxes will come even close to a DISH 722. I have a list of 30-40 annoyances on my Motorola HD DVR.

Your guide says Cox not Comcast, wrong forum

Thats what i came from, and yep, im using hdmi on both. If thats the case, maybe ill just execute my 30day guarantee and try out uverse. i've had it only about 3 days and the UI is already really annoying me...
