Home come you can buy a brand new 522 off ebay for around 179.00
Never been opened factory sealed.
And dishdepot sell it brand new for 359.00
Is there that much of a mark up on them?
And why wouldn't the dealers selling on ebay ask more?

The one on ebay is probably a leased receiver never returned. An ebay dealer would never sell one that cheap if it was ligitimate.

It's called, making money.
the guys off ebay are probably selling it $25-$50 under cost
so that when you activate it the dealer gets $25-50.00 from dish
and then if you sell enough of them and get them activated, you start
receiving monthly residuals, plus selling on ebay is the cheaper way to go.

the website(s) that you are referring to spend a lot of money advertising
each month and have a staff of people (3 or more) they have to pay for, website
maintenance and hosting fees, maybe a brick and mortar store front (lots of overhead)

Well there's no overhead above MSRP if that's what you're talking about, because $349 is the 522's MSRP. Dish already has overhead built in and sells the receiver to dealers for less

The ones I saw on ebay for $179 are remanufactured.

I saw some on there that are not remanufactured but brand new. The retailers are most likely going out of business and selling them to rid of their stock as its better to get something than nothing. I dont know why they wouldnt just sell out of their stock before going out of business so that they would not have to take a loss on the rest of their hardware.

I see that the prices of the 522's are going up on ebay. One is currently going for around $200 + S&H and the auction is not even over with yet.

A couple of weeks ago I got a brand new (not remanufactured) 522 off Ebay for $160 BIN. I see that they are no longer available at that price after Dish announced they are for sale now.

Mine works fine, although still not as good as my parent's Directivo's.
