Dish 625 questions on backing up programs and Blu ray panasonic HTB10 remote code

Couple of questions:

a) Is there a way to back up recorded programs on my 625 to an external drive. I read that for a fee I can get the USB port unblocked and then buy a external HD to save it. Does this apply to 625 dual tuner receiver.

b) I have a Panasonic blu ray HTB10 player. Is there a way a code that can be used to program Dish UHF pro remote to control it

Oh and what is a recomendation for external HD that is compatible with dish 625 receiver asuming I can attach an external hard drive

Only the VIP receiver models can use an external drive.
