I've heard of people having two services at one time. How does this work technically?

I don't want this permanently, but I'd need to get uverse tv for a while in order to also get the internet from them. Then I would drop the tv after a short time. How does this work with your house, will the new service need to drill new holes in the wall for additional cable outlets? Will the new install affect my Dish service in any way?

If you've had this situation in your house before, please share any insight.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend that you insist to the Uverse installer that they are NOT to in any way touch or mess with your sat system, as you will be having both TV systems indefinitely. Just tell the installer that you want the Uverse service, but others in the household want Dish and they are paying for that. Let the Uverse installer do what he has to do such as running separate cable, drilling new holes, etc. You do not want them screwing up your Dish install nor even attempting to diplex or run AT&T Uverse along existing cables for Dish. These Uverse installers will likely know nothing about satellite. If the installer is smart, he would recommend doing a completely separate install, as I have suggested, so that he is in his comfort zone. My two cents.

I did the same thing for 25 days (just short of the 30 day money back guarantee) so that I could get free install with the plan of only keeping the internet. I only had them install 1 receiver to 1 TV since I knew I wasn't going to keep it. No need for other wires as they used the phone line to the HDDVR and I had a spare HDMI cable to my AV receiver to connect the unit to. It was a breeze. Just make sure they know that you are going to run the systems parallel so they can't change any current wiring.

I have had local cable concurrently with both Direct and now Dish. Diplex it together at each drop I wanted it on in the attic and diplex it out behind the receiver. Never had a problem.

The funny thing was I knew about the sat-cable diplexers but the Direct contract installer didn't. That was in '98.

Because they don't like them. It can be done, but unless it is too much trouble, installers like to keep things separate, unless a customer demands no more "unsightly" cables.
