Dish Bankruptcy - Business as Usual

Here is a photo I found of the same model converter box we had - this picture is obviously from much later than ours because MTV, CNN, ESPN etc were years in the future when we had that box. However, it is similar to ours in that HBO, Cinemax etc. were each one channel.View attachment 193207

I love all the new Dish/android equipment.

That's why I got another Joey 4 to connect my old Pioneer Elite plasma to Dish services.

All the 4k tvs and one small 2k that I have, have a superior picture with Dish's newest generation of android set top boxes.

The picture is a little underwhelming connecting the Joey 4 to a Pioneer Elite Plasma,

I think that is because the Pioneer Elite is just showing the raw output probably 1080p from the Joey 4 no scaling and the Joey 4 does better in 4k or upscaled to a higher resolution from 1080p.

Pioneer Elite plasma is 1080p max.

The older Joey 4k box looks better with the old Pioneer Elite because the Pioneer Elite likes the lower output resolution of Dish's older equipment so the Pionner Elite can work it's magic.

It's not terrible with this Joey 4.

The Pioneer Elite is an amazing set, just lower resolution.

I have just been ruined by outastanding picture quality on everthing that I have.

The Joey 4 looks great on higher than 1080 resolution monitors or sets.

It's just what I think.

I am not always right.

Dish only uses 3 receiver now. Hopper3 /Hopper with sling and Hopper with 2 tuners. Fee for 2 of them is $15 and Hopper with 2 tuners $10. I have the Hopper with 2 tuners not activated since I dont record any tv program,
If the Dish engineers can design a new receiver with APPS bulit in like Hopper 3 but no DVR I will buy it since few channels are only via streaming like BBC world news etc. FEE for the new reciver $5 since you can connet to Internet.

The remnants of Charlie Ergen's soured $46 billion bet on 5G can be found on the roof of a church in suburban Boston, atop a university water tower outside Minneapolis and on buildings in Manhattan and Knoxville, Tennessee.

The EchoStar Corp. chairman's plan to turn Dish Wireless into a major US telecom provider got an assist from these and more than 3,000 other small property owners around the country, including more than 80 churches that agreed to install antennas on their rooftops to generate extra income.

But Dish stopped paying rent last year after regulators began scrutinizing its 5G plans. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in June and now wants to abandon the equipment, leaving property owners and managers staring down bills to remove it themselves. In the case of Michael Grace, the tab is $49,000.

"This is the screwiest thing," said Grace, co-founder of Grace Capital outside Chicago.

Dish hasn't paid its $2,500 monthly rent since last fall for antennas atop a 10-story office building that Grace's firm manages in Knoxville. The equipment is so bulky that Grace says he'll have to pay a crane company about $49,000 to remove it. Leaving it in place would make him liable should there be an accident, he says.

Its always sad the fallout of such large bankruptcies! So many people get hurt, and the few walk away smiling. Some things never change!

The few? You mean the one... Charlie?
That is the EXACT thing I was thinking.
There are some people in this world that you simply don't want to "get in bed with", businesswise.

Leaving it in place would make him liable should there be an accident, he says.
No more liable that he was when Echo was paying rent. Some people panic over seeing their own shadow.

Notice who Charlie is screwing over...the little guy, as always. It infuriates me that companies can do a pick and choose bk like this, but the little guy? Never.

Don't cry too much for for those that bought EchoStar and it's subsidiary debts.

The writing has been on the wall for 10 years or more and the bondholders loaned money with their eyes wide open, knowing how EchoStar moves assets and funds between it's various businesses.

They were scratching for that extra interest rate premium and got burnt in the process by apparently leaving loop holes in the loan terms.

You still need Hopper3 or Hopper with sling to operate Hopper plus. I have the HOPPERDUO not acivated still uses vip211k reciver.
I purchased the google streamer from wallmart few days ago $108 with tax and connected the ethernet wire to my DSL with 80G speed modem to google streamer to watch Amazon prime and netflix to watch NFL games it works good no issues you have 2 buttons in google streamer for youtube Tv and Netflix also all the apps are there. I needed this since my TV is 42 inch plasma.
will stay with Dish with americas 250 and NFL redzone for $119 for for next 5 months. hard to change Dish since i am a customer since 1998. In my opinion dish has a better picture than google streamer and simple to operate.

I don't watch sports so I have to ask those who do. A while back there seemed to be a lot of issues streaming live sports...not sure if they didn't have the server capacity or what. Is that still an issue?
Back around 2019 we had an internet customer who loved MLB. He complained non-stop about streaming issues when watching games. I finally did a Google search and low and behold....everyone was complaining about MLB streaming issues, no matter what internet they had. Honestly, crap like that is why I totally quit watching any type of sport.....constant customer complaints......blackouts, constant changes in where they could be watched, etc.

I actually had one customer, many years ago....we're talking early 2000s who wanted to watch some baseball game and it was blacked out. His wife called the store the next day and said he CRIED all night about missing that game. That was when I realized that people were losing grips with reality and allowing sports to consume WAY too much of their lives.

..."allowing screens to consume WAY too much of their lives." FIFY
Personally I have few issues with any kind of streaming-probably less than rain fade issues.
Can you imagine if a Survivor fan was unable to watch the last episode of a season? They'd be crying too.
It would be on Paramount+, not a issue.

DISH DBS Corporation and certain of its subsidiaries, the entities that operate the DISH satellite television service and the Sling TV streaming platform, emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy on October 1, 2026, after a prepackaged reorganization that cut their aggregate outstanding debts by approximately $4.35 billion.

Wireless is still in bankruptcy
