Dish contract with Waterman broadcasting ends Jan 1st

Greedy bastard.

In all seriousness, that site is full of false claims.

DISH network charges subscribers $5.99 a month for the local channels.

Not only is the number historically wrong, as pointed out, but now that LiL is available everywhere, LiL is INCLUDED on base packages.

DISH will not offer the local stations even one cent per day per month per subscriber for our programming. ... The fair value we are asking for amounts to pennies a day per station, per subscriber.

Less than a penny to pennies? That is more than a 100% increase.

Despite our high ratings and service to the Central Virginia community, we are compensated far less than most cable networks.

And they are not a cable network, so they have no point.

Question: Why should DISH Network pay for a signal that is available for free to over-the-air viewers?
Answer: It costs a substantial amount of money to produce local programming, bid for top-quality programming, invest in high-definition, and make other upgrades to equipment and technology so we can deliver a superior product. We must be on the same level playing field as cable networks so we can continue to provide top quality news, sports, entertainment, and other local programming that is important to you.

They didn't even try to answer the question, they just whine that what they do costs money. And it wouldn't if Dish didn't carry it?

Take a stand, Dish.

Translation:

Cable networks are double-dipping their advertising revenue with exhorbitant subscriber fees, so why can't we??? WAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!
