Forgive me, as I am new to the forum, I suspect this issue has been discussed before.

Can anyone tell me how to convert DVR recordings (Dish622 DVR), on an external HDD to files that I can transfer to my PC for editing. Ultimately I want to record them to DVD's.

I remeber reading somewhere that the recording format is linux and that's the issue.

Directing me to a past thread is great.

They're heavily encrypted

You can't. Yes the disc is formatted in Linux, but the external files are also heavily encrypted to prevent copying to the PC and being converted to any viewable format.

Also, any discussion on how one might go about circumventing the above is totally forbidden in this forum - NO HACKING!!

There is no file transfer from the ext HDD other than playing back real time. The providers (read mainly $ony here) won't let you do it. They want you to pay for every version that is produced.
