Dish Network 508 PVR Receiver

I've had a 508 PVR receiver for about 6 years now, and it hasn't given me any trouble. Up till last month it was in a cabinet while in use. I removed it and moved it to the den when I bought a 40" Samsung HDTV. I notice today that it has a "fan" on the rear right side. The fan doesn't run (move) when power is on. It may never have worked. Does it (fan) run only when the heat builds up in the receiver, or it gone?

The fan runs as it is needed, if your unit overheated, with will either start acting up or quit working entirely. If you have had no problems, don't worry about it.

You have a 40" HDTV. Time to call Dish for a DIU or other deal and move up to an HD package and a ViP HD DVR.

navychop, referring to a old TV show theme song...moving on up to the big time. That I have done. I bought a new VIP211K for $96.00 plus shipping in August from a dealer in New York, and added Gold HD package in Sept. when I setup the new $999.00 40" Samsung.
