Have had Dish since primestar. Just had Dish activate local channels. Have 2 recievers, Say Pro 508d & VIP 211k. 211k recieves local channels, 508d will not. Have tried everything Dish suggests, even bought a new 508d, nothing, they have no idea what's the matter. Heard from friend that the 508, 301 and others will not get locals because of old tech, mst upgrade to 622. any ideas?

In what format is DISH broadcasting your locals? It could easily be the 508 is no longer compatible with the broadxast. DISH should give a free upgrade to restore your viewing.

Carlb,

If you do not subscribe to the Locals into local package you will not get locals delivered via satellite. Your 211 receiver does have an OTA tuner and will receive your local OTA signals from an OTA source (Antenna, Rabbit ears, etc). The 508 receiver does NOT have an OTA tuner. The only way for that receiver to tune your locals is via satellite.

You do not mention which orbital slots you are receiving (119, 110 are the two Core programing slots that any Dish receiver can use, 129 is the orbital slot to receive most Dish's HD programing, or 61.5, and 72.7). Dish is also mirroring their Core SD programing at 72.7, although no NON VIP receivers can receive programing from 72.7 as all the content at 72.7 is using MPEG4 compression. No NON VIP receivers are capable of using MPEG4 Compression. The New York City locals are available in SD from the either 119 or 110.

The 508 can receive MPEG 2 and QPSK broadcasts if DISH upgraded the signal to 8PSK or MPEG 4 the 211 can still see it but the 508 can't.

The 508 and 301 will only get SD locals off 119/110. They did have a software issue with the 501 508 and 510 recs a few years ago that caused problems with the local channels in some areas.

They might also not be visible in the 2-69 channel range but may only appear in the 8000-9000 channel range on the 508
