The rewind and fast forward buttons on my Dish 40.0 remote control suddenly do not work. The skip back and forward do work. I rebooted the joey receiver that is is paired to, unpaired the remote and repaired it. None of this helped. The newer remote model does work but my wife likes the old model with more buttons. Any help would be apppreceiated.

Do you have a Joey 4? If so that is your problem. Several of the buttons on the 40 remote do not work with the Hopper Plus and the Joey 4.

He said it had been working then stopped, so doesn't sound like he has a Joey4 or Plus.

Actually MOST of the buttons on the 40 remote work with the Plus but since I don't have any Joeys I can only guess it would be similar.

I was just at my Mother-in-Law's house and discovered that dish has pushed that awful google-like interface to her ancient Joey 2s, which perform even slower now than before.

I did not spend a lot of time experimenting with remotes to see what had changed, but if your Joey 3 also got that new interface, it could be the issue.

It is not the issue. The interface look is not the same as the android issue. You can fix that by, assuming a 54 remote, pressing Home twice, Settings, Power, Change Power On to Tune to Last Channel. That way you will not see the google like interface unless you press home.

Understood. Just wondering out loud if while porting over an "android-like" interface, they might have also ported over the bit which makes some of the buttons not work as before.

Not at all, all the buttons on the 40 remote work just fine on the Hoppers and Joeys, except the Hopper Plus and Joey 4.

Actually Classic but it's the same thing. 😀

I also prefer the 40 remote. I ordered a new one on the Dish website last week. It cost $18 plus tax and shipping. It arrived in two or three days.
