Should Dish programming be targeted only to a "straight" oriented audience or should programming be expanded to include regularly scheduled programming intended specifically for GLBT subscribers? GLBT programming is currently irregularly scheduled on standard channels and not at all on porn channels. Please indicate your regularly scheduled sexual orientation programming preferences in this poll.

I wouldn't say that Dish is targeted to stright customers only. Dish was the only DBS provider to carry the HERE network and carried it until it went away.

It would not surprise me to see the Logo Network when Dish adds the MTV channels in HD.

I think Dish should target programming that actually gets a sizable viewership. Whatever those channels happen to be.

As for gay porn, lots of it, just of the lesbian variety. :hungry:

Thanks Scott, but Dish seems prudish to me. All their porn appears straight and even then I cannot determine content based on descriptions. No one from Dish has ever asked me what I want to see and it looks like they don't want to know what I want to see. I am an "everything" subscriber paying $144 monthly and retention staff is not "authorized" to tell me the Dish individual responsible for GLBT programming decisions. I like Dish technical performance, but their marketing sucks. Dish has no idea how to go after niche audiences. I would be glad for them to employ me as GLBT marketing manager (I am a gay male and a retired marketing executive.) I certainly don't want Dish to fail, but as I look at their recent financial performance I am very concerned. I certainly don't think adding GLBT programming alone will keep them afloat, but their marketing department sure could use a good kick in the butt. I hope the poll I created will indicate they need to get their heads out of the sand. DISH NEEDS A NICHE MARKETING EXEXCUTIVE responsible for identifying niche markets and growing that side of the business. And there are many more niches than just sexual orientation.

You will notice there is no gay oriented programming (or Gay male porn) on any on any American DBS company (nor do I know of any cable company that offers such fare.)

Dish does not create the programming so for them to offer such programming they need someone to supply them with it and with no companies offering such programming here in the US it is hard for them to carry it.

Its not a Dish thing, its an industry thing.

I do know that there is such content on Canadian service BellTV (Was ExpressVU) but I know of no other broadcasting it anywhere.

I can see this topic going off topic very quick so I am going to close it as the info you needed was here for you and its probably not the answer your looking for but indeed the industry needs to step up to the plate here.
