Actually, this is more than rumor. He has been talking to the FCC and DOJ about this along with Charter and Altice. Pai really wants the merger to go through, and he has identified people who can help make it happen. Ergen is one of them.

This isn't the same thing as the DirecTV merger talk, which is just analysts dreaming up scenarios.

Ok, now I'm interested for sure. Several motivated parties. DISH of course to get into the business, Sprint and TMobile who want to merge and this sale that helps set up a fourth provider probably puts them over the edge. Then you have people wanting to invest. Could this really happen?

I tend to agree.

Is Charlie going to build his wireless network, buy sprint or buy Directv.

He can only do 1

Best move would to trade the spectrum to AT&T in exchange for Directv and get out of the wireless business.

However the Tv business is dying, so buying directv may not be that great of an idea right now
