is there any difference in the programming with dish vs direct as far as channel lineup's go.. excluding the major sporting packages like the nfl sunday ticket???

There are lots of differences.
You should go to their websites and look at their channel line ups.

i am doing that now. though dish always says that they have more channels than direct. marketing ploy i am sure though!! as long as i can get the basic cable channels then i'll be happy
They both have things the others don't.
Directv has Cinemax and Showtime channels Dish doesn't, and Dish has EPIX and Starz Plex channels and Directv doesn't.
And I'm sure there are many other differences.
But vast Majority is the same.

If you want your RSN for the local sports make sure Dish has it
(there are some RSN"s that Dish doesnt have that Directv does)

i agree. i'll be subscribing to americas top 250 for 89.99 for what i want to watch i see no difference in the line up they have the channels that i would want

the OP is looking for the normal price. Sounds like he does not want a contract (he posted in the DIrectv forum about that)
nope!!! that's on the flex pay program you can stop and start service anytime you want there's no contract or credit check and you buy the hardware outright at full retail
But with contract u can usually get free equipment/install

Directv requires at least one leased receiver to start new services.

It does seem that Dish gives us more free weekend previews, like the past weekend with free HBO and CINEMAX.
directv had the same one
it seems i have more now with direct than when i was with dish
i figured that out when your not bowing down to the almighty directv and sighing your soul over to the devil then they don't want you as a customer!!!
