Do Timers see EHD and not record an existing show?

I have 46 episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" recorded on my DVR but if I move all these recordings to my EHD will the timers realize they are on the EHD and not record a duplicate?

I would be more worried about why I have 46 episodes of "How I Met Your Mother" on my DVR...
