I think I'm finally going to dump comcast and get dish turbohd...

On a new account, does one get a choice of receivers? Or do they just automaticallly give you the latest one? (I am getting DVR)

Also, any more news on the new 922?

thanks!

The 722K is not on the Dish web site at all. System builder does not allow you to specify whether a 222 or 222K is dropped off. Recently several phone orderers have reported CSRs saying, "Whatever's on the truck. We can't say." I call that horse crap, but your only recourse as a new customer is to hang up and call another CSR. A 222 is not as powerful as a 222K, and I would not consider an original 722 a "free upgrade" if a 621 is what I actually wanted.

This is a simple, common question that does not have a simple, 100% accurate answer. Ray, what are you after? If they don't deliver what you're expecting, you can always call back, gripe, and have them send you what you want via parcel service and do a self-install-upgrade.

The 722 is the one currently being offered with no upfront cost to new HD subscribers. Some new HD subs have reportedly been able to get a 722 and two 211s with no upfront costs.

Edit: changed 711 to 722, 221s to 211s

What is a 711 is that new or do you get a slurpee and 2 211s:D

If you have an HDTV and a SD tv and you want DVR, they will send you a 722. It you have another HDTV, you will get a 211. Or if you have another SD, they will probably send a 311. The kind and number of TVs you have determine what equipment you will get. If you want something different, it's up to your negotiation skills. Be sure you know (and agree with) what they are bringing. If they come with something else, refuse the install. BUT, you should not have such a problem. 722K is not yet available. Another month or two. The 922, maybe Christmas.

I have had a PITA 722 for over a year and I was just told by a CSR two days ago that the 722K is available for ordering as a replacment. This is about #3 on my list of things that I hate about Dish; the right hand doesn't even know that there IS a left hand, let alone what it's doing.

I have two 722's and they are far from PITA's. What's the problem with yours? Got it well ventilated?

...teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

There is no greater distraction than those who comment about other posters rather than the subject.

What you get depends on what and when you order.

If you have all HDTVs, they may send you a couple of ViP612s and a ViP211.

Unlike the situation over at D*, there is pretty much just one model in each slot and within the model, each is functionally identical.

If you tell them you want a ViP722, you'll get one (assuming they find you credit-worthy).

According to the Tech Chat, the 722K is not available yet, so I doubt they are sending them out as replacements. If they are, they are likely coming without the cool remote or the new software.

#2 on my list of things that I hate about Dish is the soul-crushing disappointment when my 625 (which was a gem) was replaced with an early-production 722 (which is, relatively, a turd). Things my 625 did well include nearly-frame-by-frame stepping in pause and slow-mo, the ability to search the guide and create timers while the DVR was making recordings, and just sit there quietly most of the time.

Click on my "[ > View Post ]" button, the whole sordid tale is there. I called a Dish rep last night, should get a callback from somebody in the States today. Cross your fingers for me.
