Does 921's Hard Drive Ever Stop Spinning? (in Standby)

Does the model 921's hard drive ever stop spinning when you go into standby? I have a 501 and this drive stops about 10 minutes after I go into standby. But by 921's drive never stops.

Seems like a lot of wear and tear having this running 24x7.

No, the drive never shuts down on the 921.

It's a matter of debate as to whether spinning down a drive actually saves any wear.

Historically, the most common hard drive problem is failure to spin up from a stopped condition.

With modern fluid bearings, it shouldn't be an issue either way.

Well I find it strange that they decided to turn of the hard drive on the 501, but did not do the same with the 921.

With so many posts here about many 921's needing to be replaced within a year I wonder if it would help to turn off the hard drive.

Even if there was no benefit, it would be nice to keep the noise down when you are not watching TV.
