I have a 211z that I use with my Tailgater. I am building a wood box that will put my 211z, ext hard drive and Blu-ray player. I want to build the box as small as possible so I am wondering how much airflow I need to leave for the 211z.

Maybe put vents in, and for good measure a USB powered fan.
I am trying to avoid that unless absolutely needed. The front of the box will be open and I will leave a few holes in the back. I am wondering if leaving an 1" of space above the 211z will be enough. If they don't put out a lot of heat I would imagine that is plenty of room.

Mine is not hot.
The Joeys feel much hotter.

But I still wouldn't put it in an enclosed box that's for sure.
That's just good common sense.

It will not be enclosed. Completely open front and halfway open back. In retrospect, box is not the best term. More like a small two shelf bookcase.

The 211Z vent is on top. I'd give it more than an inch of breathing space. You are asking for trouble with so small a space. Another consideration, you might want to upgrade to another receiver some day. You paint yourself into a corner and you have nowhere to go....
