DirecTV dumping Tivo was the single largest mistake they have ever made. Dish finally have their DVR program on the right track. DirecTV will get theirs going, but it takes time.
Basic Comcast in my area DOES NOT include On-Demand. You have to move up to their basic digital package to get On-Demand. In good cable areas, were consumers want as much HD as they can get, cable usually wins. If the customer does not care about high channel capacity, or HDTV, satellite becomes the best choice.
This will all change once satellite gets their HD content increased. DirecTV has announced they are planning to launch up to 60 HD channels by the end of the year. That will put them far ahead of what cable offers. Then cable will increase, then satellite will increase. Without satellite giving cable the competition they do, cable TV would NEVER be offering the services they provide, and vice versa.

The difference between cable and satellite is with cable you don't pay $300 for a HD DVR, you get it for free.
