Downgrade and Commitment

I have what I think is a very simple question. I don't know whether it belongs in Tech Discussions or here, but I've searched for "downgrade" in both places and came up empty.

I currently have the "Gold" package (Classic Gold 250 w/locals +Gold HD) and have been out of commitment for a while. I'd like to downgrade to the Silver counterpart but am wondering if, somehow, that will trigger a new commitment. I know that sounds crazy but, after all, this is Dish. Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you discover?

Thanks for any info.

Doing that only happens on DirecTV

Yea, well, if I could handle that humongous dish of theirs I probably would have already switched because I'm a sports fan in the NYC area. But I don't doubt you; I'm sure all providers employ their share of shady business practices.

You change anything with DIRECTV and you end up with a 2 year commitment. At least DISH hasn't stooped to that level... YET!
