cross-posted from the "OTA" forum:

Channel Master is distributing and retailing a High Definition HD Digital Video Recorder (DVR) model number CM-7000PAL HD DVR for dual tuner Over-The-Air (OTA) use. The rem "pal" in the model number is a synonym for "friend" and not a reference to the European broadcast standard.

Question: As of the initial date of this original post, May 24, 2010 has anyone acquired the hardware unit yet ? Does anyone know if the original equipment manufacture is Funai or whoever ?

Given that the MSRP price point is as mentioned in the above two URL's ... and that it records "only" thirty (30) of HD ... it seems a bit pricey. Yet it is an available option in year 2010.

Does anyone know the quality of the HD recording ?

The following URL is a review authored by David Reinhart:

Note: Mr. Reinhart indicates the hardware is a clone of the (discontinued) DISH Network DTV-pal.

A cached webpage indicates it is the EchoStar TR-50.

quality of dish pal is exact duplicate of whats sent ota.

sears had a sale on pals for 200 bucks recently.

having both a dish pal and a tivo the tivo is name based, and does internet streaming. of course theres the cost for the guide.

but name based is far better as show times change so much.

i think its sad that E never fully develped the dish pal...

it could be so much more than a vcr

I was looking for the DTVpal TR50 on Sears' site but couldn't find it so bought Magnavox 2160A instead for $198, it's a combination DVR & DVDR that records like a VCR.

Its the same as the DTVPal DVR. I have a couple (one for sale in classifieds) and they're awesome!

As Bob noted, the HD quality is the same as what it comes to the receiver as. Here in Minneapolis the HD looks real good :)

Yeah the "named base recording" thing it doesnt have but it has a 7 day guide in most cases. Some stations seem to not do it.
PBS, CBS, ABC, NBC, CW all seem to get 7 days out
FOX & My (both owned by Fox) seem to only get a day or two out for some reason
