I've noticed that there are two copies of "Similar threads" at the bottom of thread pages:

I've come to just ignore them.
I really don't want answers from 2009.
The honest answer is because they help with our search engine rankings (Google, Bing, etc.)
There is a reason they are at the bottom.

I don't think its something that is going to change, seeing it helps with the Search stuff.
