On a two Hopper system with one of them connected to the internet does bridging get enabled on both Hoppers or just the one connected to the internet?

TIA

just the one connected to the internet as that's the one acting as a bridge.

I have 1 HwS and 2 joeys brigdged to a Hws. Can bridging degrade the quality of the satelitte signal? One of my hoppers and joeys have some noise and pixelation. Also, is it better to use the wireless builtin on the second HwS or bridge it?

I have not noticed any issues with quality using bridging.

The connection will be faster over Moca than wifi.

Just to make sure, can you connect HWS via WiFi and then bridge that out to the joeys for streaming apps like Pandora?

We are upgrading to two Hoppers with Sling and four Joeys. Can someone summarize here all of the functionality associated with them? For example:

What are the features of bridging the two HwS?
How many total tuners are there with this setup?
Can any of the joeys access any of the recordings on either HwS?
Can I add two more Joeys later? (I thought you could have a single HwS and 3 Joeys, so can you double that now with the bridge?)
Can I attach one EHD to each HwS?
How can I integrate a media server with the HwS? (I thought I read somewhere that you can access a media server with HwS.) We don't have a media server yet, but it's on my want list :)

Thanks!

Bridging connects the home network to all Hoppers and Joeys with a single network connection to a Hopper. You can use the Hopper Internet Connector device instead of bridging.
How many total tuners are there with this setup?
Six plus two OTA tuners if you purchase the USB adapters.
Can any of the joeys access any of the recordings on either HwS?
Yes, so can the Hoppers.

Yes, three Joeys per Hopper, bridging is not involved in this.

You can have multiple EHDs for each Hopper.

All Hoppers and Joeys work with DLNA media server.

What is Moca?

Multimedia over Coax Alliance. The technology was developed by several media and technology companies in cooperation, hence the "Alliance" part of the name. I believe it is still the case that only those companies who are members of the Alliance have rights to use the technology or produce products enabling the public to utilize this technology, but they may be licensing it; I'm not certain. Yes, both DirecTV and Dish were/are part of the Alliance as were other such companies who are normally competitors.

MoCA is essentially using coaxial cable (per-existing in most cases) to provide wired internet or IP at similar performance to 100BASE (100Mbit/s) rather than laying out Ethernet cable all over the residence. Some MVPD's such as Dish and DirecTV use this technology to send streams of data, including video and audio, throughout their installed network at a subscribers residence as part of its whole home TV solution. Installing a MoCA network, even if a customer has a preexisting high performance home network, allows Dish or DirecTV to isolate the TV service so that it does not slow down nor cause any negative impact upon the customer's home network nor will it's Whole Home TV service suffer from poor performance if they were to use the customer's existing home network, be it wired Ethernet or wireless. MoCA 1.0 provide performance similar to 100BASE. MoCA 2.0 delivers performance closer to the 1000BASE 1000Mbit/s Gigabit Ethernet.

The real excitement about MoCA is that people who already have coaxial cable running through their home, usually for cable TV or similar TV functions, can use that pre-existing network of coax to run their own wired home network with superior performance and reliability to wireless networks instead of the difficulty and extra expense of running Ethernet throughout a home or apartment that can sometimes be very challenging or impossible in the case of renters, and with similar performance to Ethernet (wired) 100BASE.

As for everything else about MoCA, look it up on Wikepedia and at the MoCA's own website. They explain all.

Would this be the reason I cannot access any video of 1 of my HWS's? The one that is connected via ethernet to my router I can view live and recorded. On my other HWS, I can see My Recordings and timers, but when I try to view either live tv or recorded shows, I can't.

Most likely, yes. You should go into the Broandband menu and choose MoCA and then enable bridging. That will pass the IP to the other Hopper and then that should allow you to view remotely from either of your Hopper w/Slings.

Hi,

I'm considering going with additional Hopper (Currently have 1 Original Hopper w/USB Sling and 3 Joeys). We are constantly battling between the recordings and trying to watch live TV on 3 tuners.

All of my devices (Joeys and Hopper) have direct ethernet connections of their own...I can do the same with the new Hopper (or HWS) if we go that route.

My question.. If we went with another Hopper or Hopper w/Sling, how does the iPhone/iPad interact with the two Hoppers? Can the app itself hop between Hoppers when we're out on the town, or are you restricted to just the Hopper that is exposed to the internet? I had to open up ports on my firewall to allow the App to see the Hopper, but it would be great if the App could tell which Hopper to jump to if I could at least get to the original one. Due to NATing, I don't think I'd be able to open up the same ports on both Hoppers on my Firewall if that was required.

Anyone have any luck with seeing both Hoppers with the iOS App via iPhone/iPad or are you limited to just the first one that has the ports mapped to it?

Also, Any additional wiring required from the outside Dish for the added Hopper, or would it all be internal at my central Hub in the closet of the house?

Just curious....

Thanks!

Yes, you can select either Hopper from the dish anywhere app. I have a hopper with a sling adapter and a hopper with sling built in and I can stream from either no matter where I am. You also do not need a connection at each box. I have my hopper with sling connected over wifi and bridging enabled which shares that connection with my other hopper and my joeys over the MoCA network.

Disappointed with DISH - DIRT Team help???
