I believe Lionsgate owns Epix, or at least owns a piece of it. I don't like these mergers because it affords them far too much leverage in contract talks with Dish and others.

Yeah but see MGM and Viacom would have to agree to a merger. Not happening, plus Lionsgate already owns part of Starz but no merger.

Lionsgate just wants to be majority owner.

I doubt that MGM and Paramount would object to getting the wider distribution that an Epix/Starz merger would provide for their content. Of course, they will probably manage them separately in the beginning. Lionsgate also owns 50% of Pop (old TV Guide Network) with CBS as well, and I think CBS manages that network.

It's a done deal. And MGM and Viacom don't have to approve the merger.

Lionsgate says they may sell their part of Epix and run with Starz/Encore instead.
