I have a 722 and have a question concerning the timers. Now if Im recording a series and I have it set to record a maximum of 5 episodes, will it keep recording episodes and automatically record over the oldest ones or will it stop at 5 episodes and not record any new ones until I erase them. Direct did the latter of the two options which I actually prefer...Thanks guys

It works by keeping the 5 newest episodes.

However I believe that if you set the timer to protect the episodes as they are recorded it will not record a new one until you delete an old one. I never tested this theory.

Is this a new thing with timers? I never noticed it before and could come in handy with some of the various comedy central shows that I dont get to immediately.

OK, Just checked. You can either limit the number of episodes or protect but you cannot do both.

if you set it to x episodes, it will keep x unprotected episodes... I have mine set to record any episode of stargate, but i protect my favorite episodes. I have it set to keep 6, but my folder has 8 because i have 2 protected. Hope that helps.

okay so if it has reached my maximum recodings of 5 episodes, it wont record a new one until I erase them?

How about adding a SORT by episode number and/or original air date.
Used with Groups this would clean up a lot of my recordings especially on the EHD.

To answer your question clearly:

"will it keep recording episodes and automatically record over the oldest ones?" The answer is YES. If you wish to save one of those those 5 episodes from being recorded over, then you must "Protect" it. Then it will record over the next oldest UNprotected episode.

This feature has been available for YEARS. There is always some feature that we may not know about and it becomes new to us:)
