I was on the Dish network facebook page asking for an update on these channels that we lost months ago and someone said we should have them back in a couple days.......

I second the motion. I think there is a better chance of the Fox channels coming back "soon". The Disney owned channels involve a big nasty law suit which could last a long time.
Couple that nasty lawsuit with the resounding thud of no discussion about it these days, and I think you are dead on. I doubt we'll see any of these back in HD anytime soon. And with the lack of howling about it, Disney et.al. isn't exactly in the catbird seat either.
If they kill ESPN completely I might get nervous, but my XBox is gonna start streaming the ESPN3 web content soon so I have a backup in place..... Just hope it is HD quality
I think that is very true. But the elephant in the room is the current Fox saga. The outcome of that will pretty much tell you which way things are going to go in the future.
Its too bad for all the Dish America subs who don't even get the sd version for their children and family. We still pay the same and get offers to upgrade to an SD package when we ask when our channels will be back.
(that's right, they won't turn on free HD for you or anything, pay extra or bind yourself for another 2 years to get that when you are "upgraded" to a Top package).

It could be true if all of Disney packages are up for renewal. I believe that that the contract is up next year.
I was just going to ask if anyone with Dish America had any luck trying to at least get the SD versions. I would like to watch ESPNNEWS once in a while to catch a quick highlight even if it is in SD. Would be nice if they threw the SD versions to us as I'm still paying for them every month.
Don't be so sure. I was ready to move because of this and the RSN fiasco sealed the deal.
But you didn't, and that is pretty true of most that were ticked off. The larger majority didn't even consider it. The verbiage was very slight as these things go at first, and has nearly died totally off since then. Probably right after the parents found out the kids actually didn't care if it was HD or not.
Moving because of the RSN situation makes more sense as that was an actual loss of content. Were I more into the sports on those channels, I might have considered it too.
Anyone know when this is? If I was to lose these two during college football season I'd be gone in a heartbeat.
I can't see Dish losing the ESPNs. Unlike the RSN's, ESPN has a bunch of content during the day that the mainstream viewer is expecting to watch. RSNs are very limited in their material, just about one to three sport teams around the year.
I agree that loss of content is worse than having HD taken away. But it is still a snowball effect with regard to sports. I realize everyone doesn't care about sports but, for those that do, Dish is practically begging them to leave.
Dish had to know these two sports related issues coupled together could spell potential doom for sports viewers. They made their decision and I made mine. All is well.

Its a good idea to have a service that caters to those who could give a damn about sports... in theory. However, realize that most of the sports channels are owned by a conglomerate who also owns many other channels, and they like to negotiate their carriage in one big block. They really really want each provider to have to carry ALL of their channels, and especially those with sports as they get the highest subscriber fees. Notice that DISH didn't just drop ESPN NEWS in HD, they also dropped ABC Family and Disney.
The FSN's are owned by News Corps. So if DISH (continues to) play hardball with them, expect to lose FX, NAT Geo, and FOX News. (yeah I know the fist two are already gone)
Versus is owned by Comcast, which is soon to take over NBC. And I have no doubt it will be r-ebranded NBC Sports and made a much higher profile channel. They will control CNBC, SyFy, Bravo, USA and many others.
Things get even worse when you consider Disney (ESPN) and NBC-U together have a controlling share in AETN which owns A&E, History, Lifetime, Military Chan etc.
If all the major sports channels are dropped in order to save money with no sports... there won't be much left. Nothing will change barring an act of congress... hell I'm not even sure that will fix the problem.
