Trying to calculate monthly cost for the following package and hardware...

ESTIMATE MONTHLY BILL
Dish America
HD Platinum
722 Receiver

We have the everything pack today and two receivers (722 & 622). If we move to the Dish America pack and drop the 622, what will our monthly bill be?

WHAT WE HAVE TODAY
Everything Pak
722 Receiver
622 Receiver

MONTHLY BILL
$017 HD Duo (2TV) DVR Receiver
$100 America Everything Pak
$010 HD Platinum Pak
$006 Service Plan (15/0)
$006 DVR Service

Dish America $29.99
HD Platinum $10.00
722 Receiver $0.00 [since it is primary receiver]
DVR Service $6.00
Subtotal $45.99

If you keep the Service Plan, $51.99.

I am not sure why you are dropping from America's "Everything" Pak to Dish America, but I wonder if you like movies without having an expensive package or/and an expensive premium(s). I would like to point out that Encore Movies can be added a la carte for $5.00/month if you did not know; however, it does not include Encore (East) SD or/and HD or/and Encore WAM. What is included is the following SD Encore channels: Encore West, Encore Westerns, Encore Action, Encore Drama, Encore Mystery, Encore Love. There is also Epix 3 a la carte for $7.00/month, but I think that is rather expensive just for one channel.

I should also point out that Dish America does not contain all of the HD channels as America's Top 120. To see the list of channels in Dish America, please view View attachment Focus On DISH Network HD.pdf. [Please remember that the HD feeds of Disney (E), ESPNews, Disney XD, and ABC Family are not available at this time due to the Disney dispute.

I am also not sure if you have HD for Life, but my guess would be that you may lose HD for Life if you go from America's "Everything" Pak to Dish America. If you are interested in HD for Life, but you think that the prices are expensive for the America's Top packages, there are the two HD for Life eligible Dish Latino packages such as Dish Latino Dos [reg. $39.99/mo.] and Dish Latino Max [reg. $52.99/mo.]. Some channel numbers may remain the same while some may change to the 800s or/and 5000s with the Dish Latino packages. However, I just wanted to let you know there are other options. HD Platinum can also be added to the Dish Latino packages.

I think DishLatino Dos is interesting. It does not have everything, but it does have a nice selection of channels (like I said not everything) for the price:

DishLatino Dos seems to have a lot more channels if you have HD for Life (to avoid a $10 HD fee) for $10 more a month if you can afford it. I am not trying to push a package on you, but I worry that you may lose HD for Life if you have it now. Some highlights to this package in my opinion are: Regional Sports Networks (RSNs), AMC, Animal Planet, Disney XD, FX, Independent Film Channel (IFC), We, Si TV, 64 channels of Sirius XM, Boomerang, The Hub (formerly Discovery Kids), Fox Soccer Channel, mun2 (they do have some English subtitles on some shows; I also believe they show some English programming like wrestling and some movies), and National Geographic Channel. Of course, it goes by what you want; so, you may want to compare your options. There may even be more options if you are out of contract and ask. Like I said, I am not really sure of your situation, but it looks like you are going for a lower pack.

I really do hope that this helps you; let us know how it goes. :)

I should have included that we want to keep all of the premium channels. With your breakdown, I can now add the premiums we could keep and have solid numbers to see how much we are saving. I did not realize until looking at my bill to create this post that we did not have "HD for Life". I Remember reading discussion about it here and for some reason thought we would get it automatically. My bad.

Dish America combined with platinum and the four premium channels looks attractive. Planet Green will be the most painful to lose. I don't like losing Speed, FX and TCM but I'm not sure I ever watch them anyway.

I would be interested in seeing a channel list comparison between Dos and America. I'll work on that and share. Will need some help though.

Where does the Sony Movie Channel stand in all of this? What minimum package do we need to get it?

One more kicker, I have yet to change over to 129. Since we are still on 61.5, I do not get a few channels like Epix and DIY (HD) that we really want.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Look forward to more detail related to questions above and your thoughts on saving cash options.

I'm confused, I just looked at DishNetwork.COM and it says HD for Life is already activated. I thought HD for Life meant we no longer have to pay $10/mo for HD Platinum.

No, just the HD versions of the package you subscribe to... Essentially if you subscribe to AT120, all the AT120 channels that Dish has in HD you get to have in HD without paying an extra fee. They used to charge a $10/month HD fee. This is not to be confused with the $10/month HD platinum fee that includes stations not included in other packages like epix.

They waived our $10/mo fee for so many years (we complained) that I forgot they even did it. I get it now.

At minimum we could drop the second receiver and save $17/mo which needs to happen. That leaves $29/mo difference. Going to look at the other America Top packages next to see if it makes sense to move to one of them.

NEW MONTHLY BILL
$29 Dish America
$10 HD Platinum

$06 DVR Service (15/0)

CURRENT MONTHLY BILL

I figured that you were probably a movie person. If you had HD & Platinum for $10/month before HD for Life, then you should have been grandfathered in HD for Life; however, if you paid HD for $10/month and Platinum for $10/month, then you were not grandfathered into HD for Life. That does seem a bit unfair, but that is what Dish did. HD for Life reduces the $10 HD fee but not the $10 Platinum HD fee. In my opinion, nothing was really given unless one wanted to get rid of Platinum HD to save $10 off one's bill or if one was paying $20 for both the whole time (rather than $10 like those who had HD & Platinum), but I really like the HD Platinum channels.

I have never watched Planet Green. What shows do you watch on there? I may be missing some good programming that I am not aware of. I am not sure if I even watch TCM, Speed, and FX that much but feel like we need them. LOL I may watch TCM for some older movies like To Kill A Mockingbird. We watch Speed for some car shows. We do not watch FX for any of the current series although I know some people do. I may watch a movie on there from time to time, but commercials and editing make it not seem so worthwhile at times.

In terms of comparison for Dos and America, the View attachment Focus On DISH Network HD.pdf attachment is good in comparing HD offerings in the chart between "Dish America" and "HD Dos." However, I have found that Dos has some nice channel offerings if they are channels you are interested in but do not want to pay a higher package price, but it does not have every single channel. For example, Dos has regional sports networks (RSNs), and the other package (America's Top 120 Plus) that has it is $44.99/month. Dos has the following channels that are in America's Top 200 (which is $54.99/month): 64 channels of Sirius XM channels, Si TV, AMC (HD), Animal Planet (HD), Disney XD, FX (HD), Independent Film Channel (IFC), and We. In addition, Dos has the following channels that are in America's Top 250 (which is $64.99/month): Boomerang, The Hub (formerly Discovery Kids), Fox Soccer Channel (HD), and National Geographic (HD). The only thing that some do not like when changing to the DishLatino packages is that the channels are sometimes in different ranges such as the 800s or/and 5000s. However, if you use the guide or/and have a favorites list, then I do not think it will be much of a problem.

Sony Movie Channel was recently added, and it is in HD Platinum. Along with Sony Movie Channel, the following channels are also included in HD Platinum: Epix 1 HD, Epix 2 HD, indieplex HD, retroplex HD, Centric, Shorts HD, Fashion TV HD, Logo, Palladia HD, Mav TV HD, HD Theater, HDNet Movies, Universal HD, Crime & Investigation HD, World Fishing Network (WFN) HD, and MGM HD.

That makes me sad that you cannot watch channels you would like to watch such as Epix and DIY due to the 61.5 to 129 change.

I have created an Excel worksheet (see above) comparing Dish America, Dish Latino Dos, and America's Top 120. I was surprised that Dish took out HD Theater and Palladia from America's Top 120 for those without HD for Life, but I suppose it helps take the confusion away since they were initially added to HD Platinum for those that had HD for Life. I am guessing that they would not take these away from Dish America, and I have not heard anything about Dish America losing those two channels. I hope this helps.
