European Catfish have developed a taste for pigeon. The 1.5 meter long fish, the largest in the continent, lunge out of the water to grab the feathery feast.

So much for being bottom feeders.

But the pigeons were on the same slope as the bottom, just above the water level!

Not totally unheard of. Largemouth bass will clear water to take small birds off of low vegetation. Granted, they have more of a jumping reputation than catfish. And yet, wasn't it those immortal biological pioneers, The Doobie Brothers, that sang, "Catfish are jumpin'"?
