When attaching an external fan to the USB port of a VIP612, does it run continuously or only when the receiver is turned on.

Hi, I don't know but what happens if you insert a USB thumb drive when the receiver is off? Does it light up? If it lights up I would think the port is always on.

Continuously. The receiver is never "turned off" (unless you unplug it), just in stand-bye.
