External Hard Drive question

My FIL has a vip622 and wants to add an EHDD. But, he also wants to upgrade later to a 722. My question is this: Will the movies he puts on the EHDD be lost because they are tied to the 622? It seems to me that I remember when this feature became available there was some discussion about how the drive was tied to just one receiver and if you wanted to take it to another receiver the drive would be reformatted to that receiver - losing all the recordings already stored on the drive. Am I wrong? I searched for the answer on this but couldn't find it.

In the beginning, there was a three time move limitation which no longer exists. There has never been a one machine situation (that's DirectTv). He will be able to move between the machines.

Yep - specifically, I move mine between 622 and 722 with no problems.
