Have I missed it, or is there still the 3 move limt? And are those three moves after, or including the initial machine activation?

i think 3 move limit is still effect for L447.

additional question...i've tried a couple of diff brand drives to make sure they dont act like free agent drives. each one i've tried has been in NTFS format upon connection to the receiver.

guess my question is, can you connect and let the 622/722 format an unlimited number of NTFS formatted drives? or are you only allowed to connect three drives total? or does the 3 drive limit only start ticking when you attempt to connect drives that have already been formatted by the 622/722?

Yes, any number of drives. But as per my original question, I'm not sure about the moves.

I remember on a tech chat that it was going to be unlimted moves. Seems like they may have said after the first of the year. Not 100% sure on that though.

Its not an answer to the question about unlimited moves really, but I asked tech support the other day (drive failure on my 622) about the 3 move limit and whether or not there would be a problem in case of that many dvr failures (unlikely as it is) and he said no.

To make a long story semi short. I have had a VIP622 issue of late and on activating the 4th VIP622 (that is the 4th receiver in the period of a month) I received a message that I had reached my 3 move/3 receiver limit and the drive would be formatted.

I spoke with advanced tech support. The tech sent a signal to my box and after rebooting the external drive plugged in and functioned perfectly.

However, the next evening there was a problem with the 4th VIP622. Contacted tech support they could not resolve the issue and stated that I needed yet another VIP622.

On receiving, installing, activating the 5th VIP622 I received the "limit/format" message again. However, when I contacted advanced tech support this time they said that there was no way around the 3 move/3 receiver limit. I asked to elevate the call and after a 45 minute wait spoke with a supervisor who stood firm by the 3 move/3 receiver limit and stated that no one at dish could of sent a signal to work around the problem when I called last week. I asked if they could at least look up the name of the person who handled my call last week. They said that they could (would) not at this time, to where I asked to elevate the call yet again, and without another word I was put on hold, where I was disconnected after no more than 5 minutes.

Not bitter... Just confused...

that's a few 622's

if you are going through that many 622's there is something else wrong there. You shouldn't be going through that many in 3 years time let alone one month.

I ahd the same situation where I had 3 622s in about a month's time. One thing or another was wrong with it. Finally the 4th one worked great but I wa also afraid that I had reached my limit long before. I called tech support and spoke to some about my concern of reformatting my EHD. I kept getting a message to the tune of allowing the reciever to work with the EHD. Yes, no or cancel, I wasn't sure. The tech sent out a signal to re-authorize the reciever to work with my EHD, it worked and I didn't lose anything. So I really think they can get around the 3 limit problem but are reluctant to do so.

The first VIP622 worked for close to two years. HDMI stopped working.

It's replacement worked for three weeks. I received an email that I would receive the beta software update on Wednesday night and woke up Thursday morning to a dead machine. Coincidence?

It's replacement was installed and the wiring was checked by an installer. It worked for half a day and then went into a reboot every 15 minutes or so.

VIP622 #4 was installed and worked fine. But, I could not receive NHL Center Ice or the Superstation Packages. But, I could view the channels on my 211. Contacted tech support, they could not figure out the problem, and said there was something wrong with the receiver.

VIP622 #5 shows up works fine. But, still no NHL Center Ice, etc... Contacted tech support again. They said the receiver was not activated correctly by the CSR and that there was nothing wrong with receiver #4 outside the fact that it was also activated incorrectly.

So, out of the four replacement receivers, two went bad and two were activated incorrectly.

<snip>.....The tech sent out a signal to re-authorize the reciever to work with my EHD, it worked and I didn't lose ant\ything. So I really think they can get around the 3 limit problem but are reluctant to do so.
They're very reluctant to do so - could it possibly be because they've agreed to certain "back-door" constraints on digital copying? Hmmmm

Probably little different than the reason for the various activation procedures for Windows and other big programs. Windows has however many reactivations due to hardware changes before it wont work and you have to call MS. But I hear they are pretty good at giving new licenses for legit customers.
