I'd love to forego the 811's rather awful stretch mode (at least compared to my TV's). Any idea if it's possible to get vanilla 480i out of the component (or DVI) outs for the SD's? My TV (along with most of the HDTV's I've seen) won't do any stretch/zoom on any non-480i signals.

My HDTV will do stretch modes with 480p and you can output that from the component outs. I know some TV's won't do that. I assume you've tried it with yours?

Try Partial Zoom mood, I think it is great for watching 4:3 SD TV on a 16:9 HD TV. Not much lost at all and very good resolution on most channels if viewing via the DVI source.

Just output 480p on the components and tell the 811 that your TV does not do vertical compression. Then when you are on SD channels you will get full screen, and when you change to an HD channel it will letterbox it for you.
