It is amazing that some CSR's still do not know that the OTA USB tuner is availble. I have chatted with two today that said it is not available.

No need to go through a CSR. I got it through Dish Store, and it took literally seconds to order, once it became available. They already had my mailing address and credit card number.

My unit arrived this afternoon. I received the update on Tuesday. As soon as I get home from work, I can install the unit.

Wasn't there a way to force the receivers to pull the latest updates? For some reason I was thinking there was, at least with the VIP series, but I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

With the VIP receivers, and most older Dish Network receivers, you could change the time that the receiver would "check" for updates in the setting. However, all looping receiver software updates broadcast from Dish includes the receiver ID numbers, or range of receiver numbers authorized to download the software. If DISH hasn't added the range of numbers that include your receiver's ID, your receiver won't download the software no matter how many times you reboot or check.

Gotcha, makes sense. Thanks

Got my adapter today! I don't know if it's just me, but the dongle seems to be more powerful than the MT2 module. Perhaps it's because it's one tuner vs two?

Btw, for those that are wondering, any standard A-B USB cable appears to work with the dongle. I'm using an old printer cable on my dongle and it works great! No short cable here!

Are you implying that the update may not be available to anyone on the EA yet, as in not being broadcast/spooling on EA yet?

Well i guess I'll spill the beans (kind of surprised nothing has been posted yet) but yes it's being spooled on EA but with any new installs the hopper would take the S229 but had NO joey software. Now this is just speculation on my end but I'm thinking there not allowing anymore rcvr's to accept the update until the uplink issue is resolved. the WA is not impacted.

My OTA tuner arrived this afternoon. Now I need the SW update.

I guess misery loves company. Got mine today but no S229. This is like getting a Christmas present without the batteries. Just gotta wait.

I spent 20+ minutes in chat with tech support, then they sent me up the chain to higher support. He said turn off both Hopper & Joey, hit the red reset button, and when it comes back up it will have S229. Then I can use the OTA. Unfortunately it came back up at 8:00 exactly so I can't check, but he said as soon as PTAT is done I can repeat the process and will have S229!

Oh no, now he changed his mind. Now he says that there is nothing that can be done to force an update, and that all Hoppers will have it by the end of next week. That was a FINE use of 30 minutes of my time... Consider me VERY pissed at Dish now.

Contrary to the impression you might get from here, only a small number of Dish customers will have any interest in this.

A quick read just through this thread could have saved you some grief....
