Hey guys,

I read the board a lot, but rarely post, mostly because I know very little about how Satellite TV works. Anyway, I'm trying to watch the Mariner game today in HD and my On-Screen Guide on FSN NW HD says "A's at Mariners (JIP)" and has the Tigers game on it. I've also noticed that there have been far fewer HD games this year than last year on a network that Promises Every Game in HD.

Why is The Tiger game on FSN NW HD instead of the Mariners? Also, is it FSN or Dish that is dropping the ball on the HD coverage of my Baseball games?

Thank you very much, love this board.

"A's at Mariners (JIP)"

That particular instance might not be Dish's fault. Saw the same thing happened with a Mets game on SNY earlier this year. It had the same "(JIP)" listed on the SNY-HD channel, but when I flipped to the SD channel, they didnt have it either...just some slate giving game updates, stating that due to MLB restrictions, they couldnt join the game until 7:10 that night, which ended up during the 3rd inning, IIRC.

Seemed odd to me, but there was never any real explanation by the announcers once the coverage started.

The reason for the Met/Marlin game being joined in progress was the Marlins started the game early (6pm) because they had a concert after the game and Fox has the exclusive broadcast rights until 7pm on Saturday.

As for the OP, it sounds as if it was a bandwidth issue. The RSN's share transponder space as only so many games can be broadcast at one time.

I've noticed, too, at least a few Ms games haven't been in HD, even on the HD version of channel 426 (Fox Sports NW). They seem to do better with the home games, so we'll see if the upcoming ones (including today) are truly in HD.

There have been numerous threads on the lack of games in HD on Dish. If sports in HD is really that big of an issue, perhaps think about other providers. The fact remains that Dish is probably the worst of ALL providers when it comes to sports in HD, especially ones local teams.

Actually, yes, sports in HD *is* that big of an issue. Especially when there's a HUGE billboard at Safeco field for FSN that says "Every Game HD" What we're trying to figure out is whether this is a Dish glitch or an FSN issue or what - it's not happening every time, so it's worth trying to get to the pattern.
