FS Oklahoma to air Thunder games The Oklahoman
Fox Sports Net will televise 65 Oklahoma Thunder games this season on a revamped statewide network, Fox Sports Oklahoma, as part of a new multiyear television contract, the team and the network announced this morning.

Thunder on TV
Fox Sports Net will televise 60 to 65 Oklahoma Thunder games this season.

The remaining Thunder games are expected to air on an Oklahoma City over-the-air station, but a deal has not been announced.

“Our fans will be able to watch every Thunder basketball game on television, home and away,” said Ken Adelson, Thunder senior vice president and executive producer.

FS Oklahoma will launch with the first Thunder telecast in October and will be available statewide as a replacement for FSN Southwest. The date of the launch has not been set.

FS Oklahoma will air “Thunder Live” pregame and postgame shows, which will be anchored from a studio in Dallas, and a weekly magazine show, network spokesman Ramon Alvarez said. Game broadcasts will be branded “FS Thunder” for its on-screen graphics.

FS Oklahoma will reach more than 1 million cable and satellite television homes, covering every TV market in Oklahoma.

“Fox Sports is the leader in regional sports television and we are proud and excited to partner with them,” Adelson said. “They are innovative, creative and offer state-of-the-art production techniques. We have attained our goal of offering our fans a high quality, exciting, easily accessible TV broadcast.”

More than half of FS Oklahoma’s Thunder telecasts will be available in HD.

Dallas Mavericks telecasts, which have been carried in Oklahoma in past seasons, still will be available to homes outside a 75-mile radius of Oklahoma City, the Thunder’s main NBA territorial rights, Alvarez said. The Thunder would have priority if both Thunder and Mavericks telecasts are airing that night, he said.

This fall, FS Oklahoma also will begin airing Oklahoma high school state championships as part of a three-year contract with Oklahoma Secondary School Activity Association. The network will air up to 16 live broadcasts and 10 tape-delayed broadcasts of state championship games.

FS Oklahoma is developing local programming, including college and Olympic sports events and local coaches shows. It will also feature original programming and specials, such as “In My Own Words,” “Under the Lights” and “Spotlight,” highlighting local athletes, coaches, and teams. FS Oklahoma will become the 17th regional sports network in the Fox Sports Networks family.

If there is a conflict between a Thunder telecast and a college football telecast, one of the events would be available on FSN Plus, Alvarez said. Cox would be able to show the event on its local channel, Cox 7 in Oklahoma City and Cox 3 in Tulsa.

This will probably show up on one of the Alternate HD channels on Dish, like FSN Houston does here for Astros games. Mavs will probably keep FSNSW-HD on 5416.

Then again, it doesn't mention Dish Network anywhere in the press release. :(.

The Memphis Grizzlies and Nashville Predators get treated like crap by FSN South, or FS South as the on-screen graphic now says. The Grizzlies get a pre-game show and that's it, no post-game show or other team-related programming. The Predators only get a post-game show, no pre-game. But they get a monthly team-related show.

The majority of "local" programming on FSN South is geared toward Atlanta. I wish that they would have a FSN Tennessee. They're having a new, separate channel for Oklahoma with only one pro team. Tennessee has two pro teams.

This might also be a landing pad for the Cowboy Sports Network (OK State) and Sooner Sports Network (OU) basketball games that land on FSN Southwest through an alternate feed.

It was somewhere on the NBA website and one of the Tulsa TV stations website. Fox announced they would be relaunching FSN Southwest as FSN Oklahoma. Doesn't matter to me really as long we still get Big 12 football in HD

That statment applies to cable and not satellite. Satellite companies will put fs oklahoma on a alterante location with fsn southwest around just like it always has been. Cable companies will replace fsn southwest with fs oklahoma even though most of the programing is still fsn southwest.

I thought it I would put this here, since it does pertain to the Thunder.

The team named KSBI-TV as its over-the-air broadcast outlet.

According to the press release on the Thunder's web site, two of the team's co-owner actually own a portion of KSBI.

KSBI-52 will be the over-the-air broadcast partner for the Oklahoma City Thunder, televising all seven preseason and 17 regular-season games — including the opening night game against the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 29. Advertisement
The multiyear agreement was announced this morning by Thunder Chairman Clay Bennett and Family Broadcasting Group’s President Brady Brus. KSBI is available across a large portion of the state — either over the air, through cable, Dish Network and DirecTV.

Thunder TV completes the team’s telecast lineup, with all games shown on KSBI or Fox Sports Oklahoma, which will air 65 games.

KSBI will be rebranded as Thunder TV. Besides the game broadcasts, the station will feature 30-minute pregame and postgame shows and a weekly magazine show. Each game also will be rebroadcast twice, in late night and next morning timeslots.

Upon completion of its new state-of-the-art facilities on North Morgan Road south of the Kilpatrick Turnpike, Thunder TV plans to expand its newscasts and feature extensive team news coverage.

“We are more than excited to have the opportunity to partner with the Thunder in such a unique way,” said Brady Brus, KSBI president and general manager. “It’s a perfect fit with our proven commitment to local sports and family programming.”

Thunder TV will broadcast the team’s opening night game against the Bucks, Wednesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“It will be a historic night for Oklahoma and we are proud to partner with KSBI to offer the game exclusively in high definition,” said Ken Adelson, Thunder senior vice president and executive producer.
