Hello to all,

I am fairly new to the world of FTA. I live on a tiny island in the Caribbean called Curacao. It is located just off the northern coast of Venezuela and it's the sister island of Aruba.

I was wondering if any of you are located in my region and which birds are available to you. So far I managed Satmex 6, Galaxy 19, AMC 21. I want to receive AMC 4 but I figure need a bigger dish. I've got a 50cm for Satmex 6 and a 78 cm for Galaxy 19.

I'm looking forward to replies from hobbyists in my region.

Mateo

You need an AC3 Audio capable receiver to play the audio. BTW, what receiver do you have?

Welcome to SatGuys!! :welcome
I'm not from your area, but you need a dish of 90CM (36 inches) or bigger to really enjoy this hobby.

Carlospr43,

The audio on those channels - save for Montana- is in AC3 format. You need an external decoder. Some receivers have an internal decoder. Most don't however.

What receiver?

My Azbox decodes AC3 and outputs on the L/R channels

With most DVB you will get that signal from the optical output and need and external decoder to get sound.

Carlospr43,

I'm looking on the web for a solution to get audio on those AC3 channels. I would like to decode the audio with my pc soundcard. I don't know if it's possible. My receiver does have a spdif output, but my soundcard is just your plane-jane 1/8 phono jack input (line in and mic). I guess it's not accepting any digital input. However, I hear that some cards can do the job (SB Extigy for example).

The Cyberhome Sonic Voom is one of the most widely used external AC-3 (Dolby Digital) decoder solutions used here, and probably the cheapest too. The unit is designed for surround headphones, but you can connect the headphone outputs to line level inputs on a stereo, TV, etc. as well.

My 5.1 decodes the AC3 audio with regular rca cable connectors, I don't have any headphone connected to it.

rca cables from azbox to 5.1

Hola Carlos.
If you have a 5.1 tuner it will decode the audio for you, the tuner must be in surround sound option, granted you must have a SAB that will receive AC3 audio ( aka azbox elite or alike ).
Good luck.

Granadaguy.
