From what I've read, the 721 and 921 are Linux based, but the other E* PVRs are not.

Is this true?

As a future (I'm on Scott's order list) 921 owner, I wonder if it will be the last of the Linux based PVRs from E*.

At work, I run Linux on everything from old PCs to a big mainframe, so I think it's terrific.

Is there some reason that E* isn't using it on all their PVRs?

Maybe it was just cheaper to add another tuner to the 501/508/510 to make a 522?

Or, am I missing something?

It would be interesting to know if it's their own OS, or one of the embedded OSes like http://www.windriver.com/.

If Wind River is good enough for the Mars Rover, it ought to be good enough for satellite TV. They also have DirecTV on their customer list.

I'm pleased that the 921 isn't an orphan, at least as far as operating systems are concerned.
