I had my dish installed yesterday, switched from comcast.
Anyways, I go to dishes on demand and it still says no listings, and to have the reciever off when not in use to download movies and tv shows..

but this morning i still see nothing listed, I also have a ethernet cable hooked up in back of my reciever to my router for my cable internet.

Any tips or obvious errors im making?

Which sub group on Dish on demand are you selecting. Some of them are populated very slowly and sparsely, give it a couple of weeks.

movies and more
tv entertainment

niether have anything listed in them.

Yes, those do take some time. It is important to TURN OFF (put in Stand-by) the box EACH night, overnight while you sleep, for at least the first few weeks. That is when that content is downloaded from the satellite, as file downloads, not live streaming video. You should have quite a bit of content within a few weeks.

Also, if you have a broadband internet connection, you can also access the DishONLINE content. It has a lot of movies and TV shows that you download via your broadband internet connection. Of course, it takes time to download that content, but you can view it while it is downloading, once enough of it has downloaded, and it can download while you are using all your DVR features or watching live TV. However, it is not organized as well as cable. You have to know or weed though your use the search function knowing the name of the title you want or other strings. Good luck.

thank you, i did browse dish online with my internet. that helped my south park fix some.
my dvr turns off automatically after 4 hours of non use, and i have been turning it off everynight, ill keep checking on it :)
