Detroit - The Paris of the Midwest
Incase your not familier with who Ernie Harwell is, he is the legenday hall of fame sports broadcaster that have worked for the Detroit Tigers for over 40 years doing their radio broadcasts.

Anyways, Ernie Harwell has been working with the Old Tiger Stadium conservancy for the past several months to help save historic Tiger Stadium. I emailed him asking if he was looking for donations and the man actually called me the other day, thanked me for my support and gave me an address to mail him a check.

I sent him $1000

Anyways, check out the plan to save Tiger Stadium...
Please donate to help save the Old Tiger Stadium

Of course we know who Ernie is :):):)

Ernie is "Simply the Best " there was !!!

Isn't he already in the HOF , the broadcasters wing that is ?

I'm glad to see Ernie's working on the Tiger Stadium issues, but unfortunately I think the time to fight to do something with Tiger Stadium is " Long Gone".

It's great that you were able to talk with him !

Another Classy guy, someone I listened to for ALL of my childhood years and all the way up till he retired, was forced out that is.

Claude, I'm sure they appreciate the donation as well :)

They need to do something there. I visited there last week and it is just dismal down Michigan ave. now. Corktown is worse than ever. Talk about 1 screwed up city. Condemn the riverfront area of Atwater for casinos but then build them everywhere but there. Now the city wants to sell off there part of the Canada tunnel???
Well I hope they can save the stadium. Sorry about going OT:eek:

Save it for what? I am sure it costs a lot of money each year to maintain and the city can't afford it. Yeah it is a special place and as a real baseball fan myself I would love to see it stay but I just don't see it happening.

Maintain it, Who's been maintaining it ?
I doubt that much maintinence has been done since the team left.
I think thats were alot of the issues came in, they didn't allow it to be used for other venues so no one kept it up.
They could have used it for alot of things once the Tigers moved out, but I don't think it was .

I remember sitting with my grandfather when I was just a little kid listening to the Tigers games on the radio. Because of Ernie Harwell I find that I prefer listening to baseball on the radio rather than going to the games or watching on TV (Marlins games suck).

We will as soon as we can run Kwame out of town. Granted Corktown isn't what it was, but you should stop in at Slo's for some really great ribs. Expensive, but well worth it.

I stopped at Slo's and wasn't impressed. They didn't have pulled pork and the wait staff is horrible. Almost like they are too cool to serve you food. Michigan avenue is a dump. Drive from Livernois to Tiger Stadium and its horrible. They don't even have a business open for a couple miles. Its like an abandoned war zone.

Kenny,
Your not retired from the phone company, are you, I thought that you might be someone I've worked with.
